The daughter of Shaquil Barrett, a linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, drowned in the family’s swimming pool

On Sunday, the 2-year-old daughter of Shaquil Barrett, a linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, drowned in the family’s swimming pool in what authorities believe was an unfortunate accident.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the Tampa Bay Police received a call from Barrett’s residence just before 9:30 a.m. regarding a child who had fallen into the pool. Despite being immediately transported to the hospital, the toddler named Arrayah could not be resuscitated.

Authorities did not suspect any wrongdoing in the passing of Shaquil Barrett’s youngest child, who was one of four, and had recently celebrated her second birthday with her grieving family just a couple of weeks before the tragedy occurred.

“It is not believed to be suspicious in nature at this time, but a purely accidental and tragic incident,” the Tampa Police Department told the Daily News in an emailed statement.

Shaquil Barrett, who is 30 years old and a linebacker, is preparing to begin his fifth season after having his previous season cut short due to a torn Achilles. He joined the Buccaneers in 2019 as a free agent and went on to lead the NFL in sacks with 19.5. Barrett, and his wife Jordanna, who were high school sweethearts, have three older children, as reported by the Tampa Bay Times.

The Buccaneers organization has confirmed the tragic death of Barrett’s daughter and has offered their sincere condolences to the family.

“Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family,” the Buccaneers said in a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time. While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.”
