Francesca Jones, a British tennis player ranked 817th in the world, has reached her first WTA semi-final in Bogota.
She beat Laura Pigossi of Brazil, who is ranked 101st in the world, in straight sets of 6-4 6-2 at the Copa Colsanitas.
The 22-year-old will now face second seed Tatjana Maria of Germany in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, British number two Dan Evans advanced to the semi-finals of the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech.
Evans beat Andrea Vavassori of Italy, who is ranked 201st in the world, in straight sets of 6-3 7-5. Evans will next play Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain, who beat Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands.
Jones had previously defeated Spain’s Nuria Parrizas Diaz and Canada’s Carol Zhao. Doctors had told Jones at a young age that she would not be able to have a professional tennis career due to her physical condition, which includes having three fingers and a thumb on each hand and toes that are different on each foot.
