Jimin from BTS becomes the first solo artist from South Korea to reach the top spot on the US Billboard charts

With his hit single “Like Crazy”, Jimin from the K-pop supergroup BTS has made history by becoming the first solo artist from South Korea to reach the top of the US songs chart, the Billboard Hot 100.

The chart takes into account sales, streaming, and radio airplay, and the sultry slow jam made its debut at the number one spot this week.

Jimin celebrated the achievement on Instagram, sharing the news with his 49 million followers. In 2020, BTS became the first South Korean act to top the Billboard charts, and Jimin’s success with “Like Crazy” is seen as a reflection of the group’s sustained fandom worldwide.

While the immensely popular boyband is currently on hiatus, with members pursuing solo projects and completing their military service, they remain the torchbearers of K-Pop music in the US, with six number one hits, including “Dynamite” and “Butter”.

According to industry tracker IFPI, BTS were the world’s second-best-selling artist last year, behind Taylor Swift, and were the number one selling artist the year prior when they released a major album.
