Tom Cruise decided to forgo the 2023 Oscars despite his movie “Top Gun: Maverick” being nominated for six awards. However, the 60-year-old actor did not miss the chance to celebrate Michael Caine’s 90th birthday.
While Hollywood celebrities prepared for the big night, Cruise traveled to the UK to attend an intimate dinner with Caine’s wife Shakira, 75, and comedian David Walliams. Cruise was photographed grinning at the birthday celebration.
“Happy 90th Birthday to the legendary Sir Michael Caine,” Walliams wrote on Instagram alongside a series of pictures from the dinner.
Despite undergoing major spinal surgery to treat spinal stenosis, which causes back and neck pain due to the narrowing of the spinal canal, Michael Caine appeared to be in good health and high spirits. The 88-year-old actor, who relies on a walking frame, had previously sparked retirement rumors when he spoke publicly about his back issues in 2021.
In other photos from his 90th birthday celebration, Tom Cruise was seen posing with Caine and comedian David Walliams, with his arm around the veteran actor.
“Tom was not there because she was there, and he did not want a run-in,” a source told the Daily Mail on Monday.
According to sources familiar with Cruise, his absence was due to scheduling conflicts rather than personal reasons, as reported by the outlet.
The Post reached out to representatives of Cruise and Kidman for their comments.
Cruise and Kidman, a successful and renowned couple, got married on December 24, 1990. They adopted two children, Isabella (now 29) and Connor (now 27), who are both said to be followers of the Church of Scientology, like their father, Cruise.
In February 2001, Cruise initiated divorce proceedings from Kidman, claiming “irreconcilable differences” after purportedly leaving her earlier that year.
Later in 2006, Cruise tied the knot with fellow actress Katie Holmes, who is now 44. However, the couple ended their marriage and got a divorce in 2012.
Meanwhile, Kidman married country musician Keith Urban, 55, in 2006.
The happy couple shares two daughters: Sunday Rose, 14, and Faith Margaret, 12.
