Many worldwide Twitter users were unable to access the platform, with tracking website Downdetector recording more than 57K reports by 6 p.m. ET.
The company announced on Thursday that the problem was caused by an inadvertent change they made to their internal systems.
“Twitter should be working for everyone within the next few hours,” the company said around 8 p.m. ET. By early Friday, the tech giant said that all systems were operational.
The issue comes a few months after a massive hack of some of Twitter’s highly followed accounts, including those belonging to Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Jeff Bezos & Kim Kardashian West, which experts in the Empire State this week said originated in a tech support scam.
