Trump announced on Thursday that he’s ready to go higher than the $1.8 trillion stimulus package offered by his administration, even though Republicans on Capitol Hill have already rejected the idea.
President said he does believe there’s a possibility a stimulus arrangement could pass before the election, despite the dwindling time & stalled talks.
Citing mounting pressure on Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, to secure an arrangement to mitigate economic fallout from the Covid-19 crisis, President said: “At some point, she might very well say, ‘Hey, look I got to do this.'”
Trump said that so far, Steve Mnuchin, United States Secretary of the Treasury, has been unsuccessful in convincing her to agree to the GOP-preferred piecemeal approach.
House Speaker has dismissed the $1.8 trillion deal as insufficient on several major fronts & the talks are once again stuck without a clear path forward.
