The Yankees dropped three of four to the Rays at Tropicana Field a weekend ago. Losing slugger Giancarlo Stanton to a left hamstring strain and afterwards Aaron Judge concocting strained right calf, the Yankees feel the turf at Tropicana Field was simply more fuel for the fire. The Rays come into the Bronx on Tuesday for one of the greatest series of 60-game season.
While much is made of the historical backdrop of the Yankees’ competition with the Red Sox, right now with Boston revamping, the contention between the Bombers and Rays is considerably more extreme. A weekend ago in St. Petersburg, the Yankees not just got beat, they got warmed about the Rays pitchers throwing inside. The Bombers considered it to be excessively high and excessively close. The Yankees are trusting that the difference in view will change the result despite the fact that they will be without Stanton, Judge and DJ LeMahieu.
